District and school leaders across the country are developing and implementing Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports (MTSS) and using Panorama surveys to identify student needs and measure progress. Panorama helps districts measure students’ life skills development using student perception surveys and/or teacher perception of student surveys.

Coupling an MTSS with robust data and measurement from Panorama can help students grow and succeed academically and socially. In this guide, we’ll cover the key benefits for using Panorama to reinforce your MTSS, including:

  • Understanding your student body as a whole
  • Understanding an individual student’s strengths and challenges
  • Measuring student growth over time
  • Empowering students with their own data

Using Panorama Alongside MTSS

Understanding your student body as a whole

When schools or districts measure with Panorama, they receive school- and/or district-wide snapshots of students’ competencies. Educators use this data to gather a holistic view of students' needs throughout the district or in specific student subgroups, including race and ethnicity, gender, grade level, FRPL status, and more. This data can help schools and districts tailor Tier 1 interventions to the needs of their students.

Understanding an individual student's strengths and challenges

With Panorama’s surveys and reports, educators can identify an individual student's strengths and challenges. Students reflect on their competencies and teachers report their observations of individual students’ skills. Student and teacher reflections paint a nuanced picture of students’ needs that can be used to more effectively implement Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions.

Measuring student growth over time

With each round of measurement, Panorama helps educators see change over time at the classroom and individual student levels. Using this data, educators can see how their Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions are working for individuals students, allowing them to efficiently refine intervention type and timing. Similarly, administrators and other leaders can refine their broader Tier 1 interventions to better match the evolving needs of the students served in their schools and classrooms.

Empowering students with their own data

Life skills data isn’t only useful for adults working in schools — students can also engage with their own data to take an active role in leveraging their strengths and developing their growth areas. Panorama’s student-level reports provide actionable information about an individual student’s social-emotional development.  The reports are designed to create the foundation for insightful and developmental interactions between students and their teachers, families, and/or counselors to identify, understand, and communicate about their individual strengths and opportunities for  growth.
